"Celebrate the Small Things" is a blog meme hosted by VikLit at Scribblings of an Aspiring Author
I've got another small victory to celebrate this weekend.... I'm so, so tired--just exhausted--because I finally finished a two-week intensive edit of my manuscript!
I've been working on Camy Tang's (aka The Story Sensei) Deep POV Worksheet and I can tell you it. Is. Brutal. But, I highly recommend it to every writer no matter your experience level because I'm positive you will see your writing in a whole new light. I'm seeing just how shallow my POV has been all this time, and even how shallow a lot of the writing is from novels I've been reading lately.
I never even got to the last tip, #8, because I just can't even understand it all that well and I figure I'll have to try it out during a future editing round. I need to rest and let my critique partners look at my WiP for now.
It's a small accomplishment, but feels like I just dug a tunnel through a mountain. Whew! I'm really happy, but I hope I get faster at this with some practice......
What small thing are you celebrating this weekend?
Join the "Celebrate the Small Things" Blog Hop Every Friday!
The rules are simple: you post something small you'd like to celebrate - tidying that cupboard, finally getting to the gym. You join the linky list. You hop around other people's blogs and say YAY and CONGRATS and join in the happy feelings.
Yey - I'm here to Celebrate for the first Friday, so hi! And well done on your Deep POV success. I'm heading over to find out more! X

@Shah: Hi! Thanks so much. I hope you find the Deep POV Worksheet helpful. ;)
DeleteI'll have to check out the Deep POV Worksheet. Congratulations on powering through!
ReplyDelete@Alex: You should. It's great! Thanks so much, Alex. ;)
DeleteCongrats on getting so much editing done! That's awesome! And I found her blog post on deep POV. It looks awesome and very helpful to use in edits.
ReplyDelete@Cherie: Thank you! The worksheet is very, very helpful, although it takes a long time to go through everything. But, well worth it. :)
DeleteWELL DONE ON THE EDITING. And the link - I'll check it out!
ReplyDelete@VikLit: Thanks! I hope you find something useful.
DeleteI can't tell you how grateful I am that you shared this resource with me! Such a small workbook but it's been so much help. Congrats on getting your deep POV edits done :)
ReplyDelete@Lan: I'm so happy you're liking the Deep POV Worksheet! It's so short, but so deep. Truly deep in and of itself. Thanks, partner! ;)
DeleteI'm starting edits today so feeling a little jealous of anyone so far along. ;) The Deep POV worksheet sounds awesome. Will have to check it out. I've been using Cathy Yardley's Rock Your Revisions workbook and notes from Angela James's Before You Hit Send workshop. Congrats on getting so much done!
ReplyDelete@Amy: It is awesome. I'll have to look into the things you mentioned for editing. They sound interesting!
DeleteSorry I'm a week late getting to your blog. *blush*
ReplyDeleteDon't say your revisions are a "small accomplishment." Revisions are full of blood, sweat, tears, and murder! (Murdering your darlings, anyway!) You should be proud of your Deep POV work. It sounds great! :-)
@Lexa: Thanks! I guess they are rather big. Well, it's all subjective. :)
DeleteThat is awesome that you've gotten through your edits. It is a great feeling. I'm working on my second round of edits and it's more grewling than the first, I just can't seem to get through it. Anyway, congrats on pushing through and even if this accomplishment is small, it's a step in the right direction! (:
ReplyDelete@Elise: It is awesome, but only the beginning. I still have A LOT of editing rounds to go through, but it's good to celebrate getting some small amount finished. Thanks!
DeleteOh that sounds brilliant. Go you! And all in two weeks. That's no small thing, Cathy. X
ReplyDelete@Shah: Thanks! But, it's only a partial MS edit.
DeleteOk, despite the fact that I'm a little scared now, I think I need to check out that Deep POV Worksheet!
ReplyDelete@Rachel: You should! It makes a huge difference in your writing. Highly recommended. ;)
DeleteSounds like a lot of work and constructive editing going on! May you keep it up and endure to a beautiful finish. Writer’s Mark
ReplyDelete@Nancy: Yes, it was. Thanks for your encouragement. ;)
DeleteCongratulations on getting the edit done! That's always the tough part, especially if you take a gloves off approach. It all pays off in the end though.
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend. :-)
@Kirsten: Thanks very much. Have a great weekend, too.
DeleteCongratulations. Editing is WORK! I'll have to check out the story sensei. Thanks.
ReplyDelete@Nana: Yes, editing is the real work of writing. I hope you like The Story Sensei. ;)
